Whistleblowing

If you’ve raised a concern about wrongdoing and been punished for it, the law protects you.

How we can help

  • Checking whether what you raised counts as a protected disclosure in law
  • Advising on who to disclose to, and in what order, to keep that protection
  • Challenging dismissal or detriment that followed your disclosure
  • Preparing a claim, which has no qualifying period of service
  • Advising on confidentiality clauses that may or may not bind you
  • Managing the practical and reputational risks of speaking up

What happens next

  1. Tell us what you raised, who you raised it with, and what happened next.
  2. We’ll advise whether you are legally protected and how strong the link is.
  3. We agree the safest route forward, which may or may not be a tribunal claim.

Fees for this work

Fixed fee for an initial assessment. These claims can be complex, and we will give you a clear costs estimate before you commit.

Common questions

What counts as whistleblowing?

A disclosure of information you reasonably believe shows wrongdoing and is in the public interest — criminal offences, breaches of legal obligations, miscarriages of justice, health and safety dangers, environmental damage, or the concealment of any of these.

Do I have to have been right?

No. What matters is that your belief was reasonable at the time, not that the wrongdoing was ultimately proved.

Can I be dismissed for it?

You can be dismissed, but if the reason is your disclosure the dismissal is automatically unfair, with no qualifying period of service and no cap on compensation.

Should I go to the press?

Almost never as a first step, and doing so can cost you your protection. There is an order in which disclosures should be made. Take advice before you do anything irreversible.
