What happens next

  1. We review your case and give you an honest assessment of prospects and value.
  2. We handle conciliation and, if that fails, lodge the claim.
  3. We prepare the case properly and represent you through to the hearing.

Fees for this work

We will give you a costs estimate at the outset and update it as the case develops. Legal expenses insurance and conditional fee arrangements are worth exploring.

Common questions

Do I have to pay to bring a claim?

There is currently no fee to lodge an employment tribunal claim, though this has changed in the past and proposals to reintroduce fees resurface periodically.

How long does it take?

Frequently a year or more from claim to final hearing, and longer in complex or discrimination cases. Tribunal backlogs are significant.

Will I have to pay my employer's costs if I lose?

Usually not. Costs orders in the employment tribunal are the exception rather than the rule, and are generally reserved for cases brought unreasonably.

Can I represent myself?

You can, and many do. Whether you should depends on the complexity of the claim and how well-resourced your employer is. We will tell you honestly if we think you do not need us.
