What happens next

  2. We attend, take disclosure and advise you in private before any interview.
  3. We stay with you throughout and advise on what happens afterwards.

Fees for this work

Advice and representation at the police station is free of charge to you, regardless of your income, under the duty solicitor scheme.

Common questions

Does it really cost nothing?

Yes. Legal advice at the police station is free to everyone, whatever your means and whatever the allegation. There is no reason to be interviewed without a solicitor.

Won't asking for a solicitor make me look guilty?

No. It is a fundamental right, exercised routinely, and no court draws an adverse inference from it. Officers may imply it will delay matters — that is not a good reason to decline.

It's only a voluntary interview. Do I need anyone?

Yes. A voluntary interview carries the same evidential weight as one after arrest and can lead to the same charges. The setting is less formal; the consequences are not.

What is a prepared statement?

A written account provided at interview, after which you decline to answer questions. It can protect your position while avoiding the risk of an adverse inference from silence. Whether it suits your case is a judgement we will make with you.
