Common questions

Should I just plead guilty to get it over with?

Not before someone has looked at the evidence. Early guilty pleas do attract sentence reductions, but pleading to something the prosecution cannot prove is a decision you cannot undo.

Will I get a criminal record?

A conviction will appear on your record and may need disclosing to employers depending on the role and how long ago it was. This is often the most significant consequence and deserves proper thought before plea.

Do I have to attend?

Usually yes for anything other than the most minor matters. Failing to attend can result in a warrant for your arrest.

Can I get legal aid?

It depends on your income and on whether the interests of justice test is met — that is, what is at stake for you. We will assess this at the outset without charge.
